Rowena Liu-Poon

Associate Instructor

Taijiquan has been a part of Rowena’s life for over twenty-five years. She studies and practices both the Chen and Yang styles. In 2006, she attended the International Forum on Taijiquan in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where the 16 Movement Forms of the five major styles of taijiquan were presented during the Grandmasters’ workshops. Rowena also attended the 2014 International Tai Chi Chuan Symposium in Louisville, Kentucky, where she thoroughly enjoyed Grandmaster Yang Jun’s Tai Chi Kung workshops and Master Han Hoong Wang’s QICP sessions.

Rowena has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Diploma in Library and Information Technology. She had worked in libraries most of her life and retired from Mount Royal University Library in late 2015 after thirty-three years of service. As part of her responsibilities, Rowena taught students how to use library resources in small group and classroom settings. She also provided research assistance to faculty members.

Considering that she could combine her experience and interest, Rowena decided to complete the QICP certification process and obtained her QICP certificate in 2016.  Since 2017, Rowena has been teaching the Yang Family 16 Movement Hand Form in a community library on a volunteer basis. She appreciates the opportunity to attend Yang Family Tai Chi seminars. She participated in the TTM-1 workshop held in Danbury, Connecticut in October 2017 and the Traditional 103 Hand Form and Push Hands seminar with Grandmaster Yang Jun in Eugene, Oregon in September 2018. Rowena attained the Silver Eagle rank in March 2019.

Rowena has been enrolled as a part-time student in the Bachelor of Science program at Mount Royal University since September 2016. She looks forward to exploring and sharing all the health benefits that taijiquan can offer to members of the community.
